What to expect at your initial appointment

Your physiotherapist will take a detailed history. Depending on the nature of your concern this will likely involve questions about your bladder, bowels, sexual function, medical history etc.

Please know that there is no such thing as too much information, feel free to share whatever is bothering you!

A vaginal or rectal assessment may be offered to provide feedback about your pelvic floor.

If you come to see us for pelvic pain and are worried about an internal assessment we don’t have to do an internal assessment. We have been able to make plenty of progress with our clients starting this way. We may offer an internal in the future but it will always be your choice.

After your initial appointment expect a detailed email regarding any education and treatment plan.

  • No. In Australia physiotherapists are first line practitioners which means a referral isn’t required.

  • Of course. The purpose of Kin Physiotherapy is to make life easier for you!

  • Your physiotherapist will provide all necessary equipment for your session. However, due to current infection control measures we would ask that you provide a towel if an internal assessment is required.

  • Yes, we have a mobile HICAPS machine which means we can process the majority of private health insurance providers on the spot. What rebate you are eligible for will depend on your level of cover.

Please note there are some health funds that do not allow for mobile claiming. In which case we would ask you to pay in full and claim back through your insurance.

  • A postnatal check is usually suggested at the six to eight week mark as a vaginal assessment is not likely be offered prior to this time. If you do however have any aches, pains or other issues before the six week mark please do not hesitate to contact us.

If you are beyond the six week time frame it is never too late to book in for a check!

  • We understand that surgery is sometimes needed for symptom relief. As physiotherapists we can provide you with exercises to ensure your pelvic floor is as strong as possible prior to surgery. This is the same as any other muscle group in the body.

Working alongside your urogynaecologist/gynaecologist/colorectal surgeon we can also provide you with education and advice to make you feel more comfortable following surgery and guide return to activity.

  • We sure do!

You can purchase an in home or in clinic postnatal check for a new mum.

If you feel like being the most thoughtful person ever, contact us on info@kinphysio.com.au to organise this for a loved one.
