Men’s Health Physiotherapy
At Kin we have undertaken university level post-graduate training in treating men’s pelvic floor conditions.
We are trained to help you with a range of bothersome pelvic floor symptoms including:
-
Urinary incontinence is particularly common after prostate cancer surgery.
However, men can experience urinary issues without prostate changes. This can include going frequently, rushing to the bathroom or waking in the night frequently to empty their bladder.
-
Bowel symptoms can include constipation, incontinence, pain with emptying or persistent haemorrhoids or fissures.
-
Persistent pelvic pain is pain that is felt within the pelvis that has lasted longer than three months.
Your pelvic floor can contribute to this type of persistent pain as it can refer anywhere within the pelvis.
Common pain sites are pain felt into the testes, anus, lower back, lower abdomen and groin.
This type of pain can cause symptoms of sexual dysfunction including pain or difficulty with erections and orgasm.
It can be felt with activity or felt as a persistent underlying burning, aching or throbbing pain.
We are trained to assess whether your pelvic floor is likely contributing to your pain and provide you with treatment options to help.
-
50% of men will be affected my erectile dysfunction at some stage during their lives. It is often as thought of as an older person’s issue however that isn’t always the case. It can affect men at any age or stage.
Your pelvic floor muscles contribute to generating and maintaining an erection. If you are experiencing erectile dysfunction your pelvic floor may be contributing.

Pelvic health physio review is now recommended as standard pre and post prostatectomy.
If we have the chance to review with you pre-surgery we will be able to teach you how to contract and relax your pelvic floor. This is much easier to do pre op than it is post op.
We will also start you on a pelvic floor and general strength program to get you as strong as possible before surgery.
After surgery we will be able to continue your rehab. Urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction are common post surgery and we want to help you rehab your pelvic floor to achieve best possible outcomes.

We will be starting our new therapeutic ultrasound treatment for Peyronie’s disease.
We are here to talk without fear of judgement or embarrassment.
Pelvic floor symptoms can be difficult to talk about. But often patients will say they wish they attended sooner.
